A Sustainable Film Production Competition «Green Screen»
One of the most pivotal and exciting events of 2023 and 2024 was our collaboration with the production center Northern Character from the Murmansk region. For years, they worked with colleagues from Norway, Finland, and Sweden on the Green Ice Camera project and even released a guide on green filming in Arctic zones.
To our embarrassment, we were unaware of their work until 2023. After 2022, this project, for obvious reasons, fell apart. However, the resilience of our northern friends remained unshaken, and they decided to develop a national project, Green Screen.
Over two years of collaboration, we created crucial tools for Russia’s film industry:
– The ’Kladonia’ Carbon Footprint Calculator
– A Guide to Green Filming
– Criteria for the Green Screen Competition
In the future, the project plans to develop to the federal level, introduce eco-label for film projects and much more!

– Audit of all procurement, coordination and consulting for each department about sustainable products and alternatives;
– Organisation and supervision of catering on set: only reusable dishes, unpacked products from local brands and more;
– Ecological education and involvement program for the crew team during all filming process, creative memo sheet and posters for each week of shooting;
